| Abstract |
Drivers and Challenges
Growing demands to reduce costs and support business and technical adaptability are driving the integration of more systems, suppliers, customers and partners throughout the entire value chain. To stay competitive, enterprises must acquire the right information and make the right decisions in shorter timeframes.
Integration and maintenance costs are on a challenging rise due to many heterogeneous systems, the lengths and riscy nature of integration projects and rigid IT environments. Even worse, the pressure increases: today, IT must leverage existing investments, support new business processes more quickly and at the same time having to reduce total costs of ownership (TCO).
Solution Proposal
SAP's NetWeaver technology platform is a services oriented integration and application platform that helps to reduce TCO. It facilitates the integration and alignment of people, information, and business processes across organizational and technological boundaries by offering a Business Collaboration Infrastructure that is combining a Portal-, a Business Intelligence-, a Business Process Management Solution as well as a J2EE based Web Aplication Server serving as runtime and development environment.
Introducing a new family of crossfunctional application (called "xAPPs") SAP NetWeaver integrates information and applications from virtually any source by communicating using Open Standards like XML, SOAP, UDDI, WSDL, BPEL4WS, CIM, XPATH, on all affected levels of information exchange, Process Modelling and Process Landscaping.
It interoperates with and can be extended using the primary market technologies - like Microsoft .NET, Sun's J2EE and IBM WebSphere. SAP NetWeaver is the technical foundation for mySAP Business Suite and SAP xApps ensuring maximum reliability, security and scalability, to let mission-critical business processes run non-interruptive beyond system boundaries across multiple protocol and messaging layers. This Web Services based architecture offers a tightly integrated set of capabilities and furthermore provides preconfigured business content at the same time. SAP NetWeaver thus lays the foundation for adaptive, crossfunctional business processes.
This presentation is intended to especially focus on the conceptual ideas and the technology framework that has been incorporated into this services oriented architecture.
