Mobile Process Landscaping
The orientation towards business processes and their optimisation has been an important issue for some years. The identification of potentials for cost reduction, as well as an integrated IT-support for processes, is increasingly coming to the fore. Technologies supporting mobility are able to make an important contribution to it. Particular potential benefits can be located in the seamless, company-comprehensive integration of all partners participating in the business process, especially when this process is distributed. Thus, each process-step on the value chain can be connected directly to the operational information processing, the goal-oriented control of the whole business process becomes executable. By this means, entirely new process abilities are created by the access to fact-based realtime data. The use of mobile technologies at the right place results in an increasing process efficiency and thereby measurable cost reduction, as well as in an improved quality assurance.

For example, the customer and the distribution processes at the point of sale (POS) are often just slightly connected to the IT infrastructure of the company. At the same time, these processes belong to the most important ones within the value chain. Especially the focus on the avoidance of media breaks could often not or just inadequately be realised because the spatially distributed process-parts with customer contact were not connectable to the IT infrastructure of the company.

The Mobile Process Landscaping method is a solution to systematically identify potential operational benefits within grown process structures by mobile technologies. By dint of this method, distributed process landscapes can be modelled and analysed for their mobile potential.

Important characteristics of Mobile Process Landscaping are:

  • Systematic approach for the development of possibilities for supporting mobile distributed business processes.

  • Identification of processes to be supported by means of a detailed cost-benefit analysis. The value added by the implementation of the solution is measurable in advance.

  • The expected duration and the incidential costs as well as the required resources for the realisation of Mobile Process Landscaping can be estimated for each step on the basis of the process model and by providing experience.

  • Mobile Process Landscaping is oriented on the realisation of real, measurable added value. Within each level of development the potential improvement is acquired. If no improvement is identified, the project can be abandoned on each level with a defined result.

  • Mobile Process Landscaping is a precise functional support for the introduction of mobile technologies into a company.
